NEURODEGENERATIVE

Most, if not all neurodegenerative diseases arise from chronic inflammation. Some examples are Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis. In Alzheimer’s disease, inflammatory cytokines come in contact with the microglial cells of the brain which respond with an overproduction of the peptide beta amyloid, which is associated with Alzheimer’s disease. In Parkinson’s, the inflammatory process affects the substantia nigra area of the brain resulting in a diminished/loss of release of the neurotransmitter dopamine which results in the clinical presentation of Parkinson’s disease. In Multiple Sclerosis, the inflammatory cells attack and damage the myelin sheath which surrounds nerve tissue. When the myelin sheath is damaged, normal nerve conduction does not occur which results in the neurological deficits associated with Multiple Sclerosis.

At P3 Dental Technologies, we have effective methods to control chronic inflammation which results in better control of neurodegenerative diseases.
